Job overview

Following a service restructure of the Community Children's Nursing service and an expansion of the nursing provision in special schools we have exciting opportunities  for enthusiastic experienced nurses to join our team. 

The Oxfordshire Community Children's Nursing team provide vital support to children from birth to 18 years with complex nursing needs across the county. The children on our caseload have a variety of chronic and acute conditions and require nursing support such as; enteral feeding, long term ventilation and symptom management. The support we provide includes; empowering families to care for their child's health needs at home, providing respite sessions, delivering acute and palliative care outside of the hospital environment, and supporting children at school.  

This post if for 25 hours per week term-time only, to be worked over a minimum of 4 days.

Applicants must be Registered Children’s Nurses who hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car.

Main duties of the job

The role involves training school staff to maintain competencies to deliver health care tasks for pupils at the school, caseload management for identified pupils, assessment and support for pupils who have severe / complex / palliative health needs and or challenging behaviour in order to safely access education.

In addition to responsibilities in school you will also work closely with the locality team who are collectively responsible for all items of core service delivery including CCN (corporate and complex caseload), Palliative & End of life care, Acute treatments, Respite, and Training.  We all work together to deliver the highest standards of care for Oxfordshire families.

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
