About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Collaborative Design function in England North. We have an ambition to ensure our streets and public spaces serve everyone; where everyone can live and travel safely and healthily, and where nobody is excluded.
Reporting to the Principal Urban Designer, you will assist in the project management and delivery of infrastructure, community engagement and urban design projects.
You will create designs and offer excellent, creative, technically sound design solutions that promote cycling and walking in urban settings as well as along rural greenways.
As the Senior Urban Designer, you will be responsible for setting the design ambition and focusing on best practice to deliver influential, inclusive project outputs and outcomes.
This role will require travel and work at locations (especially Liverpool City Region) as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. We offer true hybrid working – a flexible mix of working from home with occasional travel to a nearby office Hub in Manchester or Leeds.
About you
You should be an effective communicator, with the ability to build relationships easily and network and engage effectively with a range of partners and members of the community.
You will have previous experience in project management and be accustomed to working on multiple projects.
You will demonstrate your technical aptitude through your visual presentation skills (freehand drawing and/or relevant experience with computer design packages such as Photoshop, SketchUp, Illustrator and InDesign).
We ask you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of highway design, transport planning and policy.
