The Company:

The Role:
The Senior EC&I Designer Engineer is a design engineer with responsibility for undertaking or complying with tasks such as design, project management interaction, technical mentoring along with tendering tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Design Tasks:

Carrying out specific design tasks to meet the time, cost and quality requirements of projects. This may include but not be limited to:

  • Design briefs
  • Standards Review
  • User requirements specifications
  • Software definition documents
  • Block cable diagrams
  • Control philosophy documents
  • Scheme functional calculations
  • Scheme design risk assessments
  • Directive compliance assessments
  • Scheme design review

Detail design generation consisting of Software system specifications, System Schematics, Panel layouts, Cable / detail functional calculations and detail design risk assessments.

Production of manufacturing documentation consisting of;

  • Wiring / single line diagrams
  • Schedules
  • PLC / software code
  • Module / integration tests
  • Factory acceptance tests
  • Method statements
  • Operation, maintenance and installation manuals
  • Technical construction files

You will also be required to take part in client meetings, testing activities, commissioning, and post project review meetings along with maintaining the project’s working folder.

You will be leading small teams of Design Engineers, allocating work and providing technical support and mentoring more junior team member as required while checking and approving of deliverables produced by other team members

Project Management Interaction:
Interact with project management staff to achieve the best outcome for the projects and assist in the development of a project schedule and Quality Plan. 
Work in accordance the project schedule and Quality plan and agree remaining work durations and also highlight (at the earliest opportunity) when a task will not be completed to a previously agreed timescale.
In addition prompt the need for Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events in accordance with NEC 3.

Technical Mentoring:
Act as mentor to a number of engineering staff to develop their technical knowledge and understanding and provide support in achieving developmental goals.

Tendering Tasks:
This may include but not be limited to the production of concept designs and estimating durations for design of tender items, also composing technical responses to quotation requests.

Quality Compliance:
Complying with JFN’s quality policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on design procedure and document numbering/control.
Approval of Suppliers and Sub-Contractors and also the awareness of client quality requirements

Technically Responsible Person Role:
Be accountable for the technical management and delivery within time cost and quality and maintain technical compliance with the contract and resolve technical conflicts where possible.

The Person:
Engineering experience ideally within the nuclear industry or alternative highly regulated industries.
Familiar with NEC3 and a track record in delivering to time cost and quality with experience in areas such as: HMV Power Distribution, (above 1kV), LV Power Distribution (below 1kV), Earthing & Lightning Protection, Building Services (Data, CCTV, Telecom, Fire Alarm, Lighting, etc.) and Radiological and Environmental Monitoring.

You must be able to communicate effectively in a group and work with integrity and commitment, when appropriate go above and beyond managers expectations.

Have the ability to lead and/or influence small teams of Design Engineers, allocating work and providing technical support (Delegated TRP responsibility) with sufficient technical knowledge and understanding of the industry to be able to technically lead a team, shape the outcome of a project and encourage and assist others in the delivery of that project.

Qualifications:
Degree (preferred) / HND / HNC. 
CEng / IEng (preferred) or minimum working towards professional registration.
