Risk Placement
Our Placement Opportunities
We’re looking for motivated industrial placement students to join our Risk Management and Pricing and Performance teams in multiple locations across the country. These include Central London, Leeds, Halifax, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol and Chester. You'll quickly feel part of our team thanks to friendly colleagues and a positive working environment.
We’re a large and diverse organisation with a wide range of roles on offer. Broadly, there are two types of opportunity available to you depending on the skills you possess and where you're passionate about contributing and developing during your time with us. The majority of the opportunities are technical, but we welcome applications from all backgrounds. Applicants should have excellent A-levels, a record of achievement and initiative beyond their academic studies and a strong desire to succeed.
Following the Coronavirus pandemic we have now started to work in a hybrid way – working from our offices again alongside continuing to work from home. Therefore office location is still important and so, if successful, you should be prepared to attend the agreed office location.
Assessments for the scheme will be carried out remotely (by video call and phone), with no travel required. Our onboarding will be a combination of face to face and remote support and training.
Technical Analysts
- Strong numerical skills
- An analytical approach
- An ability or an interest in learning and using coding skills
As a Technical Analyst, you’ll be undertaking a highly analytical role- you could be using various programming languages and software such as SAS, Python, Excel, visualisation tools, or a combination of these, all whilst using strong inter-personal skills to work with other areas of the Group.
You might be analysing credit risk such as the likelihood of customers making repayments. You could be developing models to assess customer behaviour, be at the heart of our regular stress testing activities required by our regulators or help determine how our products are priced.
Many of the roles use SAS which is a leading business programming language used for reporting, analysing and modelling our rich customer data. Previous experience of programming is advantageous but is not expected.
Non-Technical Analysts
- Strong attention to detail
- Great organisational skills
- Engaging communication skills and the ability to influence others
As a Non-Technical Analyst, you could find yourself in one of a broad range of positions – perhaps analysing operational or conduct risks or helping to set risk policy. You could play a meaningful role in one of the many change projects across the bank or support the management of suppliers. You may be involved in data management and data quality or supporting user experience of systems. In some of these roles there may be opportunity to be involved in some technical areas such as conducting ad hoc analysis.
There are relatively fewer opportunities available in the Non-Technical Analyst category.
