POST:                                Premises Assistant/Groundsperson

RESPONSIBLE TO:             Premises Manager

 

The postholder will be responsible to the Premises Manager to maintain and improve the grounds and gardens to a high standard, cleaning and maintaining the sports pavilion premises and complete minor repairs, maintenance, and general tasks of this kind associated with the running of these premises.  Working hours will be subject to a shift pattern, and call-out at weekend and unsocial hours may be necessary from time to time.

Outline of Duties

To identify and be responsible for completing all grounds maintenance tasks of main school site, this will include borders, hedge cutting and lawns.

  • To clean and be responsible for the tidiness of paths, drives and other hard surfaces within the site grounds.
  • To liaise with PE department to ensure school field is prepared for all sporting activities by specified deadlines.
  • To mark out and maintain athletic events and rugby pitches.
  • To cut and maintain the cricket squares, organise and carry out repairs, prepare and mark out wickets as requested for matches.
  • To identify and be responsible for completing all grounds maintenance tasks of main school field, including borders, hedge cutting and lawns.
  • To keep paths, access points and entrances free of snow and ice to ensure safe passage.
  • To liaise with external contractors when they are needed to carry out maintenance on the site.
  • To note and report as necessary on matters affecting the health and safety of persons on the site.
  • To report defects in buildings, furniture, fittings and plant and carry out emergency cleaning duties when required.
  • To complete Health and Safety logbooks and risk assessments where required.
  • To be responsible for the opening and closing of the premises when required. In this connection the postholder may be called out in unsocial hours or at weekends to deal with security problems or when outside contractors are working on the site
  • To assist the other members of the Premises team when required.

 

Information about the school

Dartford Grammar School is a selective academy for boys, admitting girls to its sixth form. There are six forms of entry in each year group and all of the students joining the school are from the top 25% of the ability range. The students come from Dartford, neighbouring towns and villages, and nearby London boroughs. The current roll is 1,516 including 598 in the sixth form.
