Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist to join our team across the North East Essex area.
To work as part of the integrated therapy team to provide Speech and Language Therapy input to patients with the aim of achieving maximum independent living, within a stimulating environment actively promoting self-management on all activities of daily living.
Work with colleagues across health, social care, education, mental health and voluntary sector to ensure holistic and joined up delivery of care.
Empower children and their families to make decisions about their own care and encourage them to exercise their rights and choices, signposting them to relevant community and voluntary services and supporting patients carers and assistants with management of risk
Main duties of the job
Work within an integrated therapy team, working as an autonomous practitioner, carrying out single assessments, and contributing to the development and delivery of therapeutic care plans (under the guidance of senior colleagues)
Develop programmes of therapeutic activities, weighing options and delegating aspects of care as appropriate
Support children and their families with advice, information, persuasion and direction to community resources to encourage self-management and ongoing independence
Provide support, training and advice to parents, clients, carers and other health, education and social care professionals
Support the work of assistants, students and volunteer
To participate in a full community paediatric caseload within the Trust
To manage the Speech and Language Therapy treatment of children with a wide range of conditions, including children with physical and cognitive impairments or disabilities.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Registered occupational therapist with HCPC
Professional knowledge and Skills acquired through a combination of formal training, short courses and experience to degree level or equivalent.
Understanding of a broad range of Paediatric conditions
Evidence of on-going CPD
Desirable criteria
Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
Recognised registered qualification and further courses and experience relevant to role
Skills
Essential criteria
To use Word, Powerpoint, email, excel and access (or similar spreadsheet or database packages)
Car owner/driver/access to a motor vehicle (role will involve travel to other sites that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means)
Experience
Essential criteria
Experience of working in UK mainstream schools & nurseries with children who has Occupational Therapy needs. Experience writing EHCPs and annual review reports.
Desirable criteria
Experience in working with children who has a diagnosis of ASD, CP, DCD and GDD.
A working knowledge of child development, neuro-developmental stages and the role of occupation in childhood
