THE ROLE
Wave Energy Scotland (WES) was established in 2014 as a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise to support to the development of wave energy technologies in Scotland. As a Scottish Government funded initiative, WES has been tasked with bringing together the best engineering and academic minds to collaborate on innovative projects that will accelerate the development of wave energy technologies. Since establishment, the 13 staff members of the WES team have supported over 300 organisations, awarding over £50M across more than 130 projects.
The Innovation Engineer will be part of the Research and Innovation team, working alongside the WES technology team to develop new funding and support mechanisms, apply structured evaluation processes and collaborate widely across the offshore renewables sectors and beyond. The role will use innovation tools and processes and engage in business development activity to support WES technical strategy.
THE PERSON
An in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges associated with development of wave-energy technology is essential for this role. You should have a strong technical background, with a clear understanding of technology research and development.
Direct experience within the wave energy or marine energy sectors is advantageous, as is experience of assessing stakeholder requirements and developing tools for analysis of innovations (e.g. techno-economic models and similar).
Excellent team working, presentation and communication skills will be required, along with flexibility to travel as necessary.
