Job overview

The Head of Clinical Education is a senior role in the Corporate Education Team. Leading with compassion and integrity, the post-holder manages the practice education team and works alongside clinical, corporate, education and System leads to ensure the delivery of high quality, contemporary education and training for all non-medical staff and learners, across all settings.

In conjunction with the Associate Chief Nurse (Education and Research) the post holder will:

Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive vision for the continued development of education and training delivery across the trust.

Develop and sustain an education team that is flexible, responsive and able to deliver high quality clinical education and training to staff and learners across all disciplines and aligns to the aims and objectives of the Faculty of Education.

Support the Nursing, Midwifery & Allied Health Professional Quality function, providing specialist educational, professional and clinical support as required

Support Divisions to ensure that all learners and clinical staff have access to high quality learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Line manage the Practice Education Teams adhering to all requirements in line with Trust policies.

Promote a positive culture of learning across all clinical areas.

Deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse (Ed. & Research) as required including representing the Trust at strategic meetings with System and regional partners, including universities.

Provide comprehensive reports (sometimes at short notice), as requested by (e.g.) the Associate Chief Nurse (Ed. & Research) and Chief Nurse across all aspects of the education portfolio, for the Board and its Sub-committees

Coordinate an annual training-needs analysis process in conjunction with Divisional leads, ensuring alignment with Trust Strategy and workforce plans.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Divisional peers (e.g. Matrons) in support of the education and development agenda

Identify and implement new and innovative methods of training and learning delivery, which maximise the use of resources, ensuring they meet or exceed relevant quality benchmarks including external audits..

Participate in the Trust on-call (Silver) rot

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead the review and update of relevant policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with national bodies

Provide comprehensive reports (sometimes at short notice), as requested by (e.g.) the Associate Chief Nurse (Ed. & Research) and Chief Nurse across all aspects of the education portfolio, for the Board and its Sub-committees

Coordinate an annual training-needs analysis process in conjunction with Divisional leads, ensuring alignment with Trust Strategy and workforce plans.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Divisional peers (e.g. Matrons) in support of the education and development agenda

The post holder will lead on developing, contributing to and interpreting educational guidance as provided by HEE.

Provide advice to the senior leaders regarding education, learning and development issues.

Will be required to negotiate, motivate and mediate when working with groups and teams internal and external to the organisation. May be required to identify and manage team conflict situations, and devise appropriate strategies to resolve these.

Ensure that all projects maintain business focus, have clear lines of accountability and responsibilities aligned to strategic priorities and any risks associated with delivery are identified and appropriately addressed.

Designated budget holder

Participate in the Trust on-call (Silver) rota

To produce regular reports/data and present as required locally and nationally

Lead on the co-ordination of action plans following education and workforce reviews ensuring the dissemination of information across health services, assuring implementation of recommendations and improved outcomes.

Facilitate delivery of high quality services in line with compliance to all national guidance and legislation and local

Ensure effective timely communication and information sharing both internally and externally which compliments multidisciplinary/inter-organisational working inclusive of HEI’s.

Ensure and regularly audit all record keeping in relation to education and workforce is appropriate, accountable and defensible.

Educated to masters level or equivalent experience.

Post-registration Education Qualification
