What will the apprentice be doing?
Giles Landscapes CMS has over 30 years' experience delivering landscaping services within the commercial and public sector. They specialise in hard and soft landscaping and maintenance for business parks, superstores, retail parks, hospitals, government sites and public parks. Giles Landscapes CMS has completed many high-profile projects, including the award-winning Gunpowder Park, designed by the lead consultant of the Olympic Park design team, LDA Design.
You will work within a team of 2/3 people working on various duties around the park. The science park is a busy area with lots of green spaces, planting areas, lakes, car parks and road that all require maintenance so that the park looks at its best all year round. Part of the role will include grass cutting, strimming, leaf clearing, litter picking, pruning, hedge cutting, planting and wood chipping. You will also assist with tree surgery, new landscaping projects, shrub clearance and gritting,
Staff benefits include flexible working hours and additional hours are available if the candidate wanted to earn some extra money. Personal, Protection Equipment (PPE) such as boots, warm clothing and jackets will be provided by the company.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 2 Apprenticeship in either Horticulture or Landscape Operative. Plus: Emegency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Safe use of handling and application of pesticides, Functional Skills in English & maths (if required). You will also study a range of topics to include: Health and Safety, Business Skills, Machinery, Plant and Soil Science, Plant health, etc.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Successful applicants will become part of growing team, be able to take lead roles of specific building or tasks and benefit for further training through the company if they have shown hard work and dedication, all potentially leading to site supervisor roles. Future training in mobile access platforms, chainsaws, wood chippers, tree surgery, landscaping and other machinery training all considered for the successful applicant.

Things to consider
This role is outside, all year, all conditions. The team are busy through out the year, work load varies seasonally and often requires working in all weathers. Applicants must take this into consideration when applying. Warm cloths and wet weather layers are provided.
