Care Support Worker – Community based
Epilepsy Society
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
Job Description
Care Support Workers – Domiciliary Care and Supported Living
Full time Permanent - £19,552.50 pa (FTE)
Location – Chalfont St. Peter and Aylesbury area, South Buckinghamshire, near M25
Our vision is for a world where epilepsy is irrelevant and people with epilepsy lead the lives they want to lead. We are the UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world leading research, advocacy, and care. We put people at the heart of everything that we do.
It is an exciting time to join us, and we hope you will be inspired by what we do and recognise our potential to do even more.
As Support Worker your duties are varied. You might support a person to go to college, to the shops or to the theatre, but as guide duties may include some support with personal care needs and domestic tasks as well as help to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support peoples’ health & wellbeing such as arts and crafts, football, drama, or shopping trips.
As a Support Worker, you will motivate the team and champion a positive culture within the service.
STEPS is the Supported Living and Domiciliary (home) Care Service of Epilepsy Society providing care and support in Chalfont and Aylesbury areas. We are registered with CQC and are a specialist service for people with epilepsy and/or associated complex needs, non-epileptic attack disorder, learning difficulties or other disabilities. Support is tailored individually to the person to enable them to maintain positive lifestyles in their own home and local community.
Whilst everyone at the Society has epilepsy, and often a learning disability or mental/physical health needs, the people we support are individuals. Some will rely on you to get through the day. For some, you’ll simply make it more fun.
Building strong bonds with our residents’ families and our wider team, our Support Workers soon start feeling like one of the family. It’s a rare privilege, and an opportunity to achieve your potential – whilst helping others to reach theirs too.
We offer a generous holiday allowance (27 days plus bank holidays), with the ability to buy and sell annual leave, a generous Employee Referral Scheme, length of service awards, access to shopping discounts and cashback with thousands of retailers, a staff recognition scheme, and excellent training and development opportunities.
We also have a generous group pension scheme, life assurance and an employee assistant programme (with confidential helpline with any support you might need).
On-site, there is plenty of free car parking, a Café and beautiful grounds to work in and be surrounded by.
The role is ideal for someone either already experienced in working in care, who is looking to bring their knowledge, skills and experience into a new environment, and who is interested in developing their career through our management training development programme, or someone who is brand new to care and wants to kick start their career, whilst making a difference to the lives of others.
You’ll need a positive ‘can do’ approach and a flexible approach to work. This busy position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You'll also need to be able to drive, with access to a vehicle.
Learning and development training opportunities will be provided, including a recognised Care Certificate and support towards an industry recognised qualification if desired.
The post holder should demonstrate our people values of CAIRO (Caring, Accountable, Improving, Respectful and Open.)
