In order to improve women’s experiences of receiving perinatal care, promoting their recovery, meeting NHS England’s Long Term Plan ambitions, AWP perinatal mental health services aim to embed peer support workers within each of the Community Perinatal Mental Health Services and OCEAN and MaLT Services.  (See JD and KLI for more information on these services).

A key aspect of this role will be to ensure coproduction is at the forefront of service development to inform our work on increasing the representation of people with lived experience across the perinatal mental health pathway. Proven skills of supporting people with perinatal mental health or complex mental needs, supervising and/or managing others within peer support worker role, lived experience or equivalent experience required.

Main duties of the job

The Peer Support and Lived Experience Coordinator will facilitate and support the recruitment and development of peer support worker roles across the perinatal service across AWP.  The post holder will provide high quality individual supervision to peer support workers, supporting them in developing their role within the multidisciplinary team.

The role will include the provision of expert peer support to women who are being treated by the perinatal service and the provision of providing advice to mental health services across the ICB re: the development and sustainability of peer support worker posts, including role definition.

The post holder will act as an ambassador of recovery, through positively sharing and drawing upon aspects of own lived experience, to inspire others, challenge stigma and discrimination and promote recovery.

A key aspect of this role will be to ensure coproduction is at the forefront of service development.  The post holder will be confident in managing small projects, facilitation of expert reference groups, organising and coordinating engagement activities and supporting delivery of training to inform our work on increasing the representation of people with lived experience across the perinatal mental health pathway.  Excellent communication skills and networking with external organisations such as the Maternity Voices Partnership, in addition to representation on AWP Service User Involvement Hub, are essentialcomponents of the role.
