This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team at Commercial Networks Ltd in their new location in Newcastle-under-Lyme, you will assist with day-to-day IT support and troubleshooting, as well as installation work directly to our customers. Duties include answering customer phone calls, logging support tickets and working on them through to resolution, responding to alerts from our monitoring system and working as part of a team.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team to provide technical support for customers’ existing hardware and/or software installations and resolve as soon as reasonably possible using the resources available to you
- Answer customer phone calls, log support tickets and work on them through to resolution
- Assist with building and configuring new hardware including UniFi switches, servers, PC’s and laptops
- Install, configure and support desktop operating systems (Windows 10 Professional or higher) as well as basic support for server applications such as Microsoft email and database applications
- Respond to alerts from our monitoring system to provide pro-active maintenance, resulting in less outages and downtime for our customers
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Training will be delivered in block weeks at the escalla academy in Crewe and will include:
- Approaches to back up and storage solutions
- Principles of basic network addressing, for example binary
- Key principles of security including access and encryption
- Fundamental principles of operating systems, hardware systems architectures and devices
- Principles of OSI layers
- Principles of cloud and network architecture (including Wi-Fi)
- Principles of LANS and WANS
- Approaches to virtualisation of servers, applications, and networks
- Principles of API's and Web Services
- Main factors affecting network performance including faults and error control
- Information communications technician Level 3
- Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
To become a member of the team and develop technical skills to be able to assist and mentor further apprentices.

Things to consider
